Dr. Witte is actively involved in two major outreach activities currently. Students have the opportunity to participate in either or both of these, but there is no obligation to do so.
Lifeboat is a peer support app for veterinary professionals developed by Dr. Witte in partnership with Dr. Elizabeth Strand, Dr. Xueping Li, and Dr. Carrie Jurney. Graduate students have the opportunity to serve as supervised mental health consultants on the app, providing support to the veterinary volunteers who are supporting their peers. In the coming years, Dr. Witte will be conducting program evaluation research on the Lifeboat app, which will involve qualitative and quantitative methods.
Circles is a community-driven program aimed at supporting individuals who are trying to move out of poverty. Dr. Witte oversees the children's programming at Circles, which provides free childcare for individuals who are completing the weekly, 18-month program. Graduate and undergraduate students have the opportunity to assist as volunteers.
